A lack of updates, an extended post – part the first

I haven’t posted in a while. That’s an understatement, sure. I haven’t posted in five months. I can give a few reasons, like work, NaNoWriMo, work, laziness, work, lack of material, work, Japan trip, work, etc. And I’ll give those reasons (as well as a bit of an explanation for each of them) below, but they’re not real reasons. Sure, they’re “reasons”, technically, but they’re not the reasons I haven’t been posting. There’s no reason for that. I just haven’t been. If you want a reason, you’ve come to the wrong place. On the other hand, if you want some random rambling, a possible religion rant, a crappy attempt at a sci-fi novel and some minor notes about a 2.5 week-trip through Japan… well, keep on reading. The first part of this extended post is just after the jump.

The last time I posted was October 26th, 2008. Know what I did October 31st, at midnight? I was at Denny’s, with about 30 other like-minded individuals, starting NaNoWriMo. Now, for those living under a rock (or simply not weird), NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it is an attempt to get out a whole novel (50,000 words) written in a month. (At Denny’s I only got about 300 words, most of which had to be tossed out in the light of day.) The event occurs every November, probably because in the United States November is cold, boring, (almost) holiday-less and is the longest month of the year, thanks to daylight-savings. Anyhow. I heard about this from one coworker (who didn’t end up writing a novel), and worked together with another coworker (who did write a novel). I ended up writing 16 thousand words. Which I’m going to post here. It may be a coincidence that I stopped blogging after hearing about NaNoWriMo, as my thoughts were grounded in a futuristic world of a failed sci-fi story. Could be. One way of finding out is for me to put an end to this attempt – I’ve been working on and off on changing/adding to the story – and one way I can think of doing this is by putting it in a public post. Here’s hoping this will remove my blogger’s-block.

EDIT: The story was moved to this page.
